V palestinskem kontekstu je oljka simbol ukoreninjenosti, neprekinjenosti generacij, pravice do mirnega bivanja na lastni zemlji in tihega odpora proti okupatorju. Pogosto jo posadijo ob rojstvu otroka in drevo lahko zaradi svojih robustnih korenin pre\u017eivi tudi, \u010de deblo uni\u010di poseka, zmrzal ali po\u017ear.
